SOS Food movie night!!!
Thursday, July 31, 2008 @ 7:30 PM
SOS Food Advocacy Committee invites you to attend a screening of The Real
Dirt on Farmer John, at the Sixth Street Community Center, 638 East Sixth
Street (between Avenues B and C). This spellbinding documentary captures the
collapse and rebuilding of one of the largest Community Supported
Agriculture (CSA) farms in the United States.
SOS Food is a grassroots organization committed to challenging destructive
practices of industrial agriculture and offer sane and sustainable
alternatives. This screening is the first in a series of movie nights
dedicated to educating the community on the dangers of agribusiness and
importance of local, sustainable foods. To learn more about SOS Food please
visit www.sosfood.org.
3.5 out of 4 stars. A loving, moving, inspiring, quirky documentary.
~ Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times ~
Unbelievably special a real and gripping story with insight and humor.
~ Al Gore, former Vice-President ~
It's an unflinching account of what farming takes and, more important,
what it gives back...
~ Jeannette Catsoulis, The New York Times ~
The film evolves into a deeply moving metaphor for the struggles of an
entire generation. His triumphant story is essential for all of us city folk
who have found ourselves despairing for the Earth and what has seemed like
our inevitable alienation from it.
~ Mark Achbar, director, The Corporation ~

mentoring/nature awareness paths. There is a great synergy between these two
approaches and we'll be exploring this fertile ground. Between March and September
there are seven participant weekends and an additional two weekends for the
apprentice teacher team.
Contact me if you have any questions or want to be involved. Please help us
spread the word and pass this message along!

PermaCultural Mentoring and Design
A Seven-Weekend Course in Southern Vermont
How would it feel to have a tightly woven cultural basket to carry us as we
travel through the wild, unpredictable changes many of us foresee in our future?
Permaculture and The Art of Mentoring/Nature Awareness teaching bundle creates
a win-win cultural environment for learning and living.
Each weekend will involve plenty of time outside practicing nature awareness,
mentoring, observation, and ecological design. Well also play with diverse
approaches to learning, including storytelling, creative arts, experiential
exercises, and games, along with lectures, discussions, meditation, and hands-on
work. Permaculture design projects in the community will comprise a significant
portion of this course. You will leave the course with the skills you need to
start weaving ecological cultures in our own backyards and neighborhoods right
here, right now.
Two ways to Register: There are two courses running simultaneously in an integrative
mentoring system. A 7-weekend participant course and a 9-weekend apprenticeship
course.
The difference between the apprenticeship and participation in the course is
that as a participant you will fully experience the Art of Mentoring and Permaculture
Design. As an apprentice you will learn to facilitate the blend of these
two cultural movements for yourself and the participants.

addressing challenges with a can-do attitude, carrying an abundant service ethic,
willing to tolerate tension between the known and the unknown. Must be ready

will evaluate the applicants based on the following criteria:
? Community, civic, local networking or leadership experience

nature awareness programs
